In 2016 – 2017, St Peter’s was involved in 440 sports fixtures (45 more fixtures than the previous academic year), offering every pupil the experience of playing competitive sport in their journey through the school. In addition, our activity programme allows children to explore more specialist sports and outdoor education generally. Sports and activities on offer include:
St Peter’s has a 28 acre site with a heated outdoor swimming pool, sports hall, squash court, numerous rugby, football and cricket pitches, astroturf and tennis courts.
The school has been recognised as a centre of excellence and has therefore been awarded Academy status for its squash.
St Peter’s is known for its sporting strength and we pride ourselves in excellent achievement as well as excellent change of experiences. Children at St Peter’s often also play at County level and both boys and girls have great success both at local and national fixtures.
In the Michaelmas Term children play rugby and hockey and in the Lent term netball and football, in the Summer term, cricket, rounders, athletics, swimming and tennis. Squash is played all year and we are proud of our academy status.
Regular fixtures are played against local teams and those as far away as Wiltshire.
The activities programme extends the sporting opportunities.
All pupils and staff who work at St Peter’s are arranged in houses. There is a huge network of cross curricular house events throughout the year from Scrabble and table tennis to tug of war.
Vertical mentoring is new this year and children enjoy buddy reading and developing games for the younger ones.
