For New Parents: Pastoral Care
The Role of the Tutor

We believe that the welfare and happiness of our pupils are central to their ability to develop as confident learners and as future leaders in society. For this reason, there is no higher priority than the provision of excellent pastoral care here at St. Peter’s. Indeed, no fewer than four independent inspection bodies have praised our system of pastoral care as being of the highest possible quality.

At the very foundation is our system of tutor groups. Each child has their own dedicated tutor to whom they can turn for advice and guidance when needed. Tutors and their children often form close bonds which last throughout pupils’ careers at St. Peter’s, and beyond. We believe that this is the reason for the friendly ‘family’ atmosphere which impresses so many visitors.

The tutor is the first point of contact between parents and school. Tutors monitor the social, physical, intellectual and emotional progress of their children, liaising with parents, individual staff or the whole staff body as necessary to ensure that their needs are being met.

Pastoral care at St. Peter’s is overseen by Kerry Lord, the Deputy Headmaster, who has specific responsibility for this area.
