For New Pupils: Settling In
The Role of Guardians

If you’re thinking of moving to St. Peter’s, we’d love you to come for a visit to see the school for yourself. When you visit, we ask one of the children in your class to be your guardian for the day. They’ll meet you when you arrive, and make sure that you never feel lost or alone during your day with us. You’ll find that you make plenty of new friends straight away!

When you join the school, your guardian will stick with you for the first few weeks, until you’re sure what’s what, who’s who and where’s where! We find that new pupils settle in very quickly indeed with all this help.

"Being a Guardian is like having to explain a hard Maths question to a friend who doesn't understand.  It is also really fun to get to know the new person because you can find out all about them.  The role of a Guardian is to show, help and encourage the person on a Taster Day.  Sometimes they catch on fast and sometimes more slowly.  Being a Guardian can be scary and exciting because you do not know how the person will act.  When you are given a person to look after, other people say "she's so lucky to be chosen to be a Guardian" so it can make you feel a bit special.  When you are a Guardian, it is really important to make sure the new children has always got a friend next to them."
