The group was made up of children with varying levels of skills and experience, with some having only just started playing their respective sport. We believe that every pupil should have the chance to go on a tour. However, they all have a common goal - making the most of such a wonderful opportunity to visit one of the world's most exciting and vibran cities, Edinburgh!
Our hosts for this tour were Craigclowan (Perth), Belhaven Hill (Dunbar) and Loretto Nippers (Edinburgh). A fixture against Fettes was cancelled due to an outbreak of mumps in their camp just before we set off, but we are looking forward to meeting them in the future.
The children and staff flew to Edinburgh from Exeter and arrived just in time for a quick game of ten-pin bowling and some supper before bedtime. The following day saw training and our first match. Tuesday and Wednesday were match afternoons in Perth and Dunbar, with a visit to the castle and camera obscura to break up the day. Our final day included a trip to Dynamic Earth, the Palace of Holyrood House, and for those who had had enough of retail therapy, a bracing walk up Arthur's Seat and the spectacular views that that afforded. The week culminated in the end of tour dinner, which took place at a local chinese restaurant, where the children dressed, appropriately, in Hawaiian clothes!
All of the children participated in each match and not only learned a good deal about themselves during the week, but also their peers. Frienships were made and cemented and the children returned to school on a high and played some of the best rugby and netball they had ever played!
