About St Peter's

A very warm welcome

Head & Heart in Harmony

Flourish academically & personally

As Head, Charlotte Johnston, explains in her TV interview (see below): “It is very important to me that the children enjoy their time at school. I really believe that they learn best when they are happy and when they have a really wonderful relationship with their teachers.” Our three Cs of Courtesy, Consideration and Common Sense are at the heart of what we do. The children’s behaviour is excellent and the school produces warm, confident and impressive young people. We are proud of our independence which leads us to placing children, after St Peter’s, in the right senior schools from a huge range.

We should be delighted to meet you for a visit and a tour and we do hope you choose to start your child’s educational journey at St Peter’s. Please call 01395 280335 to make an appointment for a tour and to meet our Head, Mrs Charlotte Johnston.

Becoming part of the St Peter’s family

When you join St Peter’s, you are welcomed into the St Peter’s family. With events for parents and grandparents, as well as pupils; this is a true community school.

St Peter’s pupils benefit from outstanding teaching in small class sizes where children of all abilities have the individual attention they need to enable exceptional achievement and challenge. Your children can benefit from the freedom of growing up in this area of outstanding natural beauty, as well as learning to horse ride, sail, kayak or ringo on the Estuary as part of our Friday afternoon activity programme. Children enjoy both our own Forest School and Beach School.

A Journey of Excellence

Ensuring quality education

Year 8 children gain 100% success rate of entry to their chosen senior schools and many leave us with academic scholarships or with scholarships in art, music, sport, design & technology, drama or computer science. We feed a huge range of senior schools and are extremely proud of our independence which means that we place children in the right school for them for their senior years.

We will be able to prepare your child for entry into the best possible senior schools, whether they be local, national, day or boarding. We do not believe in pigeonholing children at 3 until 18 and feel that a transitional change is hugely beneficial at the end of their primary years when children are ‘ready’ for the next stage.

Our Nursery consists of one class of 3 and 4-year-olds and is part of our Pre-prep which also includes two Reception classes, two Year 1 classes and two Year 2 classes. Our Lower School is made up of two Year 3, two Year 4 and two Year 5 classes. Upper School consists of two Year 6, two Year 7 and two Year 8 forms.

To encourage children to learn to work independently as they progress through the school.

To provide excellent pastoral care and an environment in which children can feel secure, are encouraged to talk and are listened to.

To foster in our children an appreciation of the need to be courteous, considerate and to use their common sense in all areas of life.
