October Half Term Activities in South Devon

With the Autumn Half term holiday fast approaching, and pumpkin spice in the air, selecting some unforgettable and season-specific activities are on the agenda! With so much fun activity in the South Devon area, there are plenty of options to choose from. From spooky ghost hunts to goat shows, steam trains and pumpkin decorating, the half term holidays will be an array of activity this year!

Day Out With Thomas the Tank

Saturday 19th – Monday 21st October

For your first stop of the October half-term holidays, head over to the beautiful South Devon Railway and spend the day with Thomas and friends! Grab a ride with Thomas for 15 minutes of excitement and keep going back for more, as spending time with Thomas is unlimited! Then, head over to South Devon’s delightful steam train and travel to beautiful Totnes and back, absorbing South Devon’s rolling countryside for one hour and fifteen minutes on an all-round journey. Fill your afternoon with entertaining stories by Thomas and the Fat Controller. The fun doesn’t just stop with Thomas, but you can also enjoy the lovely vintage bus and fairground rides too!

Pennywell Farm’s Goat Week

Sunday 20th- Monday 28th October

Pennywell Farm is a wonderful activity centre that allows your child to get close to nature! From pig petting to pond fishing, there are an array of fun activities to delve into! For the half-term autumn holidays, the farm will be supplying a range of fun-filled goat based activities! A goat show, a treasure trail and an agility course will be taking place! Every day, at either one or three o’clock in the afternoon, you can settle down and watch entertainment and magic in the theatre. And don’t forget the pig racing at half-past two! The best part is if it rains, you can receive a free wet weather return ticket!

Dinosaur Half Term Halloween Horrors

19th- 31st October

Torquay’s Dinosaur World is an exciting and fascinating destination for all the family! And what better way to really capture the attention, than to add in some spooky surprises? The Halloween Hunt is a compelling activity which can lead to a prize of a fossil dating back to an estimated 160 million years ago! All participants also receive a Dinosaur Expert Certificate. Throughout the week at 3:30 pm, you can attend the Lights Out Torch Tour. It is an atmospheric activity where you can investigate the exhibition in the spooky shadows, and feel absorbed in eery ghost stories. Attend if you dare!

Where’s Wally? The big Museum Hunt

The Torquay Museum is hosting an enthralling event you cannot miss! Join them for a hunt for one of the most entertaining book characters to have graced the bookshelves, Where’s Wally! It is a part of a nationwide event by Kids in Museums and Walker Books in the honour of Wally’s new book, Double Trouble in the Museum. Explore the fascinating museum in search of Wally and discover fun facts along the way.

Riverford Pumpkin Day

Saturday 26th November

Riverford is once again hosting their famous Pumpkin Day! Join the hustle and bustle at Wash Farm and take part in a mix of activities for all family members. Pumpkin decorating and face painting should keep the youngest ones entertained in the creativity area. Take a leisurely stroll around the charming farm or attend some workshops at Penny’s polytunnel. Seed potting and headdress-making are the workshops available on the day. The whole day will feel truly atmospheric with both bands Banned on the Moor and Stompin Dave playing music on the day. The day will leave you feeling stuffed with plenty of organic food on offer at the Farmers Market and The Riverford Field Kitchen. The farm is dedicating to reducing plastic use, so be sure to bring your own water bottles, reusable cups and Tupperware for the day!

Overbeck’s Spookytastic Halloween

Thursday 31st October

To really embrace the October half-term holidays, make sure to attend the spookiest event in the area! Put on your most excellent (and scariest) Halloween attire and make your way over to the stunning Overbeck estate to get submerged in Halloween activity. Join the ghost hunt in Finding Fred and track down Overback’s resident ghost in a game hide seek!
