Imogen

A number of new staff have joined our St Peter’s community at the beginning of Michaelmas Term 2019.  We plan to conduct a short, informal interview with each one to find out more about them!

Our first interviewee is Mrs Imogen Slater, who has joined Ms Rachel Elliott in the Admissions & Marketing department.

Name: Mrs Imogen Slater

Role at St Peter’s: Admissions & Marketing Officer

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

I’m a born and bred Devonian!  I’ve lived in the county for most of my life, except for four years in Surrey, studying History and for a Masters in Public History at Royal Holloway, University of London. I’ve worked for the National Trust and the Dame Hannah Rogers Trust (a Devon-based disability charity).  I found myself back in Surrey four years ago, where I met my now husband. We relocated to Devon permanently earlier this year, and recently married in July 2019 (with our reception held here at St Peter’s).

What did you do before joining St Peter’s:

I worked at Surrey Heritage, as a Project Officer for a WW1 project, researching topics relating to the impact of WW1 on the Home Front in Surrey.  The job involved recruiting volunteers to do similar research; giving talks on project findings; overseeing the creation of learning resources for teachers of Key Stage 2 and 4 age groups, and running workshops in schools; creating marketing literature and organising events across the county; interviewing people who had memories of family members who served in the war, and also lived in Surrey between 1920 and 1950; and uploading all the information shared with us onto the project’s website.  It was absolutely fascinating and full of wonderful stories!

What is your favourite thing about living in Devon?

The sea; it was the thing I missed most when living in Surrey.

What hobbies do you have outside of St Peter’s?

I enjoy running, cooking and trying new recipes, visiting historic properties, kayaking, and taking our family black Labrador for walks.

If you could describe your first week at St Peter’s in 3 words what would they be?

Friendly, vibrant, energy!
