Performing Arts
Music
In
the Senior School (Years 5 to 8) pupils learn to
use the keyboards for live performance and for sequencing. They use Sibelius and Cubase software to
assist with composing and arranging.
We
expect the pupils’ singing and musical experience to broaden through a greater
understanding of the key elements of music.
There are opportunities for group and solo performance and pupils learn
to recognise various styles of music, gaining knowledge of other cultures and
traditions.
The
Senior School also mounts a full programme of
concerts, including many ‘informal’ concerts to give performing opportunities
to all individuals. Major performances
often take place in prestigious venues in and around Exeter.
Drama
Drama
plays an important part in the curriculum.
Pupils are motivated by a sense of achievement and the talent produced
is considerable. Plays and musicals
undertaken in Years 5-8 develop children’s confidence and communication
skills. Every child is encouraged to
take part at a level they are comfortable with.
In
order to support performance theatre, all children participate in drama lessons
where a wide range of activities allow children to respond, be creative,
perform and evaluate their own skills and progress.
As
productions often take place in local theatres, or overseas as part of one of our tours, pupils are encouraged to
develop their skills and take responsibility for sound, make-up, costumes and
lights.
