Boarders' Viewpoints
A typical day for a Year 8 boarder
“At 7.00 a.m. I get up and have a shower. I then have to do my boarders jobs. When these are done, I go down to breakfast. When we have finished breakfast we go and tidy our dorm before going down to school.
Once at school, we have registration and assembly and then into our first two lessons. After we have had lessons, we have a 20 minute break in the Year 8 Common Room. Then we have one more lesson and a prep session, then lunch. During lunch break, we have to complete our Year 8 duties. In the afternoon, the girls may go up to the Marine Camp for hockey. When we get back from the camp, we have afternoon break and 20 minutes free time”.
“I wake up and have a shower because I board. We have breakfast – we have a wonderful choice of things to eat. We come to school and have the register. We have a couple of lessons then we do fun stuff- games! Then I go up to the boarding house at 5.00 p.m. with lots of prep. We then play games and then after tea we have another prep session. At 7.00 p.m. we have free time until 8.30 p.m. and I go to bed at 9.00 p.m.”
“I am a boarder and I like it very much. We wake up at 7.00 a.m. We get dressed and do our jobs. After our jobs, we go down to breakfast, then back up to brush our teeth before going to school. We start lessons at 9.00 a.m. The best lesson is games and we have been on a rugby and hockey tour to Edinburgh. Because we are in Year 8, we get a common room, which is really good”.
Boarders' Comments
"The best part of boarding is the people; we are like a massive family."
"The boarding parents are the best and so is Matron. The range of activities is amazing."
Boarders’ Duties
All of the boarders share daily duties. These include laying up breakfast things and tidying away the trolley afterwards, keeping the common room tidy and switching off the school computers at the end of the day. All boarders are responsible for ensuring that the showers are clean following use in the morning, and that the games cupboard is kept tidy. There is a weekly rota for each job.
