More Gold for Ben & Stevie
Ben Rhodes and Stevie Morrison clinched the gold medal in the 49er class at the World Championships in Cascais, Portugal this month. The pair, who have been racing together for many years now and are based in Exmouth, took the lead in the competition early on. It was clear, that with a place in the Beijing games at stake, they were not going to be beaten easily, and indeed with 35 points, they finished well ahead of the Austrians, who took 2nd with 52 points. Arch rivals Chris Draper and Simon Hiscocks finished 9th with 75 points following some disappointing results during the week's sailing.
Great Britain’s sailors were the kings of Cascais, winning the
President of the IOC Cup for the second time and finishing as the only
nation to qualify for Olympic spots across all 11 events.
In the battle for medals Great Britain were supreme, winning more
medals than any other nation and finishing top of the Medal Table.
Ben & Stevie will be competing for Great Britain next month in the pre-olympic regatta in Beijing and we, of course, wish them success!
