For New Parents:
How the Children Learn:
Nursery/Reception
Physical Development
In the Nursery we promote the values of being active and healthy.
Pupils have two PE lessons a week led by specialist staff. They
are introduced to a range of small, large and hand-held apparatus in a
structured play environment. Social interaction and co-operation
are encouraged through partner and group work.
As pupils move into Reception, they will be introduced to more sport
specific skills and apparatus that will improve skills of coordination,
control, manipulation and movement.
Pupils will develop skills in the areas of: gymnastics, dance, ball
skills, swimming and athletics. They will become familiar with
the specialist teaching areas such as: the sports hall, the squash
court, the tennis and netball courts, the sports fields and the outdoor
swimming pool.
In class activities the children will practise their fine and gross motor
skills through a range of activities.
