Former Pupil heading for Olympics

We were delighted to learn that former pupil Ben Rhodes and his Exmouth team-mate Stevie Morrison took gold in the first European event in the new ISAF World Cup series last week.  Sailing in the high performance 49er class, they got off to a perfect start on Monday with a win in the one race the class was able to run due to poor weather conditions.  After Tuesday's round, Ben and Stevie found themselves in 7th place, one point and a place behind arch rivals Chris Draper and Simon Hiscocks.

However, some fighting spirit saw them fight back and they went into the final on Friday afternoon with an 11 point lead over the rest of the fleet.  They one the gold by a single point over the Danish team.  Ben and Stevie, who are current Eureopean Champions in this class, are hoping to clinch the only place in the Beijing Olympics next year and will next compete in the French Olympic Week in Hyeres, France this week, April 21-27.  Mum Kay, who is a member of staff at St Peter's, was needless to say very excited and spent all day with a huge grin on her face!
