About our Tours
Every year pupils from the senior school have the opportunity to go on tour. Our programme more recently has alternated between Sport and the Performing Arts, hopefully catering for all tastes and interests. Years 7 & 8 are always included, and the invitation is extended to Year 6 for the Performing Arts. Recent tours have included:
October 2008 – Sports tour – Jersey
October 2007 – Choir Tour – Rome
October 2006 – Sports Tour – ScotlandOctober 2005 – Drama production ‘Oliver!’ – Toronto, ON
October 2004 – Sports Tour (Rugby & Netball) – Scotland
October 2003 – Chamber Choir Tour – Daun (Germany), European Parliament (Brussels) Chapel Royal (Tower of London)
Each tour has a ‘team focus’ and a common goal for the pupils and the staff. All pupils are encouraged to participate, whatever their level of ability. Often they have the opportunity to stay with host families, especially when touring abroad. This is an excellent way for children to gain first hand experience of new cultures.
There is also a strong cross curricular aspect to every tour, encompassing, for example, opportunities to broaden the children’s historical, geographical and scientific experience wherever possible.
Parents have commented on the amazing transformation in their children in such a short period of time. A bonding experience for all concerned; living and working so closely together proves to be a chance for children to cement current friendships and also get to know others in their peer group, including the staff!

Rome 2007
We were delighted to have the opportunity to sing in some of the finest places in Rome this year on our Choir Tour, in which 40 children from year 5 to 8 took part. Alongside this, 3 of our most promising artists accompanied them and took advantage of all of the wonderful sights that Rome has to offer.
Scotland 2006
We once again went north of the border for more inspiring hockey and rugby. Return matches against Craigclowan in Perth and Belhaven Hill in Dunbar, along with a first-time fixture against Fettes College Juniors, were watched by a band of extremely supportive and encouraging parents who followed us up.
Apart from the on-pitch exertions, the children enjoyed a good deal of sightseeing including a trip round the castle, a visit to Our Dynamic Earth and a brisk walk up to the top of Arthur's Seat.
The magic of Edinburgh and the Highlands did not fail to impress our pupils who all agreed that it was "the best tour we've ever been on"!
